Local gas fire engineers you can trust

When the heating fails in a home, it is uncomfortable. When it fails in a business, it costs money. Staff can't work in a cold office, customers don't linger in a cold shop, and a café without hot water can't trade at all. We built our reputation on domestic work across Midlothian and Edinburgh, where turning up on time and explaining things properly earned us 84 five-star Google reviews. We bring the same standards to commercial premises, with a few things businesses need on top: visits planned around trading hours, certificates and service records issued promptly for your compliance file, and one point of contact who knows your building. Our engineers are qualified for commercial gas work as well as domestic, so we can look after everything from a single shop unit or rental flat to larger commercial boilers and plant rooms.

GAS FIRE SERVICING

Gas Fire Servicing

Keep your gas fire safe, efficient and reliable with a professional annual service. We inspect the fire, flue, ventilation and safety devices and provide a clear written record of the work.

Why Service Your Gas Fire?

Gas fire manufacturers recommend a service every year. Over time, dust, soot and debris build up on the burner and in the flue, while components naturally wear. A fire that is overdue a service can become less efficient and more likely to break down.

More importantly, faults with the fire or flue can create a risk of combustion products, including carbon monoxide, entering the room. Regular servicing helps identify problems before they become serious.

What Our Gas Fire Service Includes

  • Removing and cleaning the burner, pilot assembly and injectors
  • Checking and cleaning coals, logs or ceramics and re-laying them to the manufacturer's layout
  • Checking the chimney or flue is clear and drawing properly, including flue flow and spillage testing
  • Testing safety devices, including flame failure and oxygen depletion sensors
  • Checking gas pressure and burner performance

Thorough Checks and Documentation

  • Checking room ventilation meets the requirements for the fire
  • Inspecting seals, glass, fixings and the fire casing
  • Testing the appliance for safe and correct operation
  • Providing a written service record and details of anything we recommend

Most services take around an hour. If we find a fault, we will explain what is wrong and provide a price for the repair before carrying out any further work.

Landlord Gas Fire Checks

If you let a property with a gas fire, it must be included in the annual landlord gas safety check alongside the boiler and any other gas appliances.

We can inspect everything in one visit and issue your landlord gas safety record the same day.

Boiler and Gas Fire Service in One Visit

If your boiler is due its annual service too, it makes sense to have both appliances checked together. One appointment, one engineer, and both appliances inspected and documented on the same day.

Gas Fire Safety

If you smell gas, turn the fire off, open the windows and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, or you notice soot marks, a lazy yellow flame, headaches or drowsiness when the fire is on, stop using the fire and get it checked before lighting it again.

GAS FIRE REPAIRS

Gas Fire Repairs

Gas fires are generally reliable, but when something goes wrong it is usually one of a handful of faults. Our engineers diagnose and repair them, helping restore safe and reliable operation.

The pilot light won't light, or lights and then goes out
The fire lights but cuts out after a few minutes
The ignition button or control knob has stopped working
A weak, uneven or yellow flame where it used to burn clean
Soot or black staining on the coals, the fire surround or the wall above
An unusual smell when the fire is on
Remote control or electronic ignition faults

We carry common parts such as thermocouples, pilot assemblies and ignition leads, so many repairs are completed on the first visit. For older fires where parts are no longer made, we will tell you honestly whether a repair is possible or whether replacing the fire is the better use of your money.

GAS FIRE INSTALLATION

Gas Fire Installation

A new gas fire can transform a room and heat it far more efficiently than an older model. The right fire depends on your chimney or flue, the size of the room and the look you want, so every installation starts with a survey.

Fires We Install

We can supply and install a range of gas fires, with the right model selected for your chimney or flue, room and preferred style.

  • Inset fires. Sit inside a standard fireplace opening, with a traditional surround and hearth.
  • Outset fires. Sit forward on the hearth and throw out more heat, a practical choice for older properties.
  • Hole-in-the-wall fires. Set into the chimney breast at eye level for a clean, modern look with no hearth.
  • Glass-fronted high-efficiency fires. Sealed behind glass so more of the heat stays in the room.
  • Balanced flue fires. For homes with no chimney. The flue goes straight through an outside wall.

How Installation Works

  1. Survey. We check your chimney or flue type and condition, the gas supply, ventilation and the fireplace opening, and confirm which fires are suitable.
  2. Fixed quote. A written price covering the fire, the fitting and any extra work such as a flue liner or a new gas supply.
  3. Installation. We fit the fire to the manufacturer's instructions, connect and test the gas supply, and carry out flue and spillage tests.
  4. Handover. We show you how to use the fire, leave the paperwork and register the installation with Gas Safe.

Supply or Fit Your Own Fire

We can supply a fire from leading manufacturers and help you choose the right model. Already bought your fire? We are happy to fit a fire you have purchased elsewhere, provided it is suitable for your chimney or flue.

Send us the model before you buy if you can and we will check that it is suitable for your installation.

Removal and Capping Off

No longer using your gas fire? We can disconnect it safely, cap off the gas supply and remove the fire, leaving the opening ready for an electric fire, a stove or closing up.

From choosing the right fire to installation, testing and handover, we can manage the complete process from survey through to completion.

GAS FIRE FAQS

Gas Fire FAQs

Clear answers to common questions about gas fire servicing, installation, repairs, safety and ongoing maintenance.

01

How often should a gas fire be serviced?

Once a year. That is the recommendation from gas fire manufacturers and Gas Safe, and it is often a condition of the fire's warranty. If you are a landlord, the fire must be safety checked every 12 months by law.

02

How much does a gas fire service cost?

The price depends on the type of fire, as glass-fronted and balanced flue models take longer to strip down and clean than an open-fronted fire. We confirm a fixed price when you book.

03

How much does it cost to install a gas fire?

It depends on the fire you choose and the work needed to fit it. A like-for-like replacement into a sound chimney is the simplest job. Costs rise if the chimney needs a flue liner, a new gas supply has to be run, or the fireplace opening needs altering. We survey first and give you a fixed written quote.

04

Can I have a gas fire without a chimney?

Yes. A balanced flue fire vents directly through an outside wall, so it does not need a chimney. We can tell you at the survey whether your room and wall position are suitable.

05

Why does my gas fire keep going out?

The most common causes are a worn thermocouple, a dirty or blocked pilot, or the oxygen depletion sensor shutting the fire down. That last one is a safety device doing its job, so a fire that keeps cutting out should be checked by an engineer and not repeatedly relit.

06

Is my old gas fire still safe to use?

Age alone does not make a fire unsafe, and many older fires run well for decades when they are serviced each year. The warning signs are soot staining, a yellow or floppy flame, a smell when it is lit, or a fire that cuts out. If it has not been serviced for a few years, book a service before winter.

07

Do I need a carbon monoxide alarm with a gas fire?

Yes. In Scotland, every home must have a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a fixed fuel-burning appliance such as a gas fire or boiler. We can check yours is correctly positioned and working during the service.

08

Can you fit a gas fire I have bought myself?

Yes, as long as it is suitable for your chimney or flue type and comes with the manufacturer's instructions. Send us the make and model before you buy if you can, and we will confirm it will work in your home.
